How do I use the app?
Allow bank messages on the first screen, wait for the first scan, and your transactions, cards and EMIs are there. Trans. lists payments, Stats shows where the money went, Accounts shows your accounts, cards and loans, and More holds the rest. The step-by-step guide covers every part.
How do I connect Gmail?
Open More > Sync and tap Connect Gmail. Step 1: choose your account and make an app password on Google's page (any name, then Create, then copy the 16 letters). Step 2: paste it in the app and confirm. It needs a personal Gmail address with 2-Step Verification on, and it is read-only. Full steps.
Can I sign in with Google (single sign-on)?
Amount Tracker has no sign-in of its own. Gmail is connected with an app password, not Google sign-in. The only place Google sign-in is used is the optional Google Drive backup, so the app can write an encrypted backup to a hidden folder of your own Drive. More.
What does Sync do, and how often does it run?
More > Sync brings in everything: new bank messages, Gmail (transactions, statements, loan papers) and locked statements. Messages arrive by themselves. Gmail is checked about every 6 hours, with a deeper look about once a month, and Sync now reads the last 90 days. A switch at the top pauses it. Details.
How do I add a credit card?
Open Accounts, then Cards, and scan the card with the camera or tap it on the phone. Only the number, expiry and name are read, never the CVV. Cards that appear in your bank messages are added by themselves, and a card statement fills in the limit, bill date and pay-by day.
How do I add a statement?
Open Accounts and tap Add statements, or share the file to the app from another app. PDF, Excel and CSV files work, and a password-protected PDF opens with details you saved in Settings.
Why do I see no transactions?
Check that reading bank messages is allowed in More > Settings and security. The first scan picks up messages that were already on the phone. If a bank's message is not recognised, it waits in the review list, or you can add it with Paste and fill.
How do I back up and restore?
Export saves everything to a file you choose, free. The optional automatic backup goes to a hidden folder of your own Google Drive, encrypted, with a recovery code you save. On a new phone, install the app and restore from the file or the Drive backup. Details.
Does the app send my messages or data anywhere?
No. Messages are read and understood on your phone, and there is no Amount Tracker server that receives them. Only what you choose to connect (Gmail, a Google Drive backup, Google Play) talks to those services.
Why does it need permission to read my SMS?
Your banks report every payment by SMS, and reading those messages is how the app builds your records without you typing anything. Only bank, card, UPI and loan messages are used; one-time passwords, offers and personal messages are skipped and not stored.
Do I need to create an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no password for Amount Tracker itself.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. Reading your messages, your records and your reminders all work offline. The internet is only needed for the optional Gmail connection, the Drive backup and Google Play.
Which banks does it support?
It understands the message styles of many Indian banks, card issuers and UPI apps. If a message is not recognised, it goes to a review list, and you can add it with Paste and fill.
Is it available on iPhone?
Not at the moment. Amount Tracker is for Android phones.
Is it really free?
The essentials are free and stay free. Plus is an optional plan with a 21-day free trial that starts only when you tap Start free trial.
How do I cancel Plus?
In Google Play, under Subscriptions. If you cancel during the trial you pay nothing.
What happens to my data if I uninstall the app?
Uninstalling removes the data stored on the phone. If you want to keep it, back it up first to your own Google Drive or export it to a file.
How do I move to a new phone?
Make a backup (or export a file), install the app on the new phone, and restore it there.
Why does connecting Gmail need an app password?
Gmail lets other apps read mail only with an app password you make yourself. It is read-only for this app, stored encrypted on your phone, and you can disconnect it any time. The app guides you through the steps.
Does the app ever click a link or reply to a message?
No. It never opens a link from a message, and it never sends, deletes, replies to or marks any SMS.
Can I trust the numbers?
The app is careful: it counts a payment once, ignores offers and failed payments, and sends doubtful messages to a review list. It still depends on what your bank sends, so check anything important against your bank statement.
Does it give financial advice?
No. It is a tracking tool and gives no financial, investment or tax advice.
Who do I contact with a question or complaint?
Write to amounttracker@gmail.com. The Contact and grievance page has the details, and replies come within seven days.
